History

In 1969 the Wisconsin State Legislature enacted laws to license and regulate dispensing hearing instruments. The Wisconsin Alliance of Hearing Professionals (WAHP) was started in that effort. Over the years “The Wisconsin Model” was born. This brought hearing instrument specialists together with dispensing audiologists. In 1994 WAHP worked with the Wisconsin Speech, Language and Hearing Association (WSHA) to enact laws to license and regulate the practice of audiology. In 1996, WAHP and WSHA leaders adopted a historic joint resolution for the betterment of the hearing impaired and for those who serve them. Today WAHP continues its tradition of leadership and cooperation.
